Je Suis Charlie

We take a stand here, at the beginning of the new year, to show our solidarity to Paris and those fallen creatives: #jesuischarlie

Je suis Charlie

It is with a great sadness that we start the year talking about such atrocities as those that have happened over the last few days in Paris. You might even wonder why we feel the need to talk about it?

Well, it’s simple: as a company devoted solely to art creation, these events mean a great deal to us. We create a different kind of art, in the shape of images for branding, marketing, etc, but above all we feel it’s important to be able to continue to create art – whatever kind -, without fear of retribution from those who have differing points of view.

The events that have taken place constitute an attempt to restrict freedom of speech: a minority group felt that a particular kind of satire-based art was offensive to them, and took extreme measures to prevent this group of extremely talented and intelligent people from continuing to create it.

It is important that we stand up for the right of satire and arts to exist. We don’t need to agree with them, or even find them funny – but one of the fundamental points of democracy is to protect the rights of the individual voices, and allow them to be heard. It is only by creating and maintaining conversations that we can hope to evolve.

Thank you so much for this post. It is heartbreaking news from Paris, for all of us. Twelve people lost their lives in the name of Freedom of Speech. We must all keep our pencils writing, our voices speaking, to support the journalists and satirists out there in the world who work to keep truth democratic. “It is only by creating and maintaining conversations that we can hope to evolve.” Perfect! And so is your image. xx

    Dawn,
Thanks so much for your lovely words. I have been in true awe of the inspirational response from the Charlie Hebdo newspaper. I love that they have said everything in one image so much more eloquently then any words.
